The
technology is believed to be coming to Samsung's many devices next year,
including its flagship handset.
Samsung's Galaxy
S5 handset could launch with a 16-megapixel camera featuring the firm's Isocell
technology.
During Samsung's
Analyst Day on Wednesday, the company showed a slide indicating that a
16-megapixel Isocell sensor will be coming to the company's smartphones for
2014-2015. That news came after Samsung confirmed that its flagship handsets
would feature a 16-megapixel camera.
Sam Mobile, a site that tracks Samsung, pieced the
announcements together, saying that it appears the Isocell will be coming to
the Samsung Galaxy S5. After all, the site points out, the Galaxy S5 is
Samsung's flagship handset, and the slide indicates that Isocell will come
bundled with a 16-megapixel sensor.
So, what is Isocell? Announced in September,Isocell is designed for mobile devices and aims at
capturing cleaner, higher-quality images. The company said in September that
Isocell reduces pixel size without requiring larger cameras. That results in
more light passing through the pixels, thus improving image quality.
For its part,
Samsung hasn't confirmed that the Galaxy S5 even exists, let alone will feature
Isocell technology. But all signs appear to point to Samsung bringing its
technology to its next flagship handset.
